Man Wore Body Vest To Rob Bellerose Gas Station At Gunpoint: Police

BREAKING: Officers responded to the gas station for an unrelated call to find a robbery in progress on Monday morning, police say.

An Arizona man was found to be in possession of weapons and a body vest after he was arrested for robbing a Bellerose Village gas station at gunpoint on Monday morning, police say.

According to authorities, officers responded to Conoco Gas, located at 24802 Jericho Turnpike, for an unrelated call and came upon a robbery in progress at 1:55 a.m. Police said Jean Volcy, 36, displayed a firearm and demanded cash from the register.

Volcy was placed under arrest and following a search, officers recovered a handgun, two magazines with ammunition and determined Volcy was wearing a body vest, police say.

Volcy was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of weapon, unlawful wearing of a body vest and two counts of unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
