New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Candidate Profile: Frank Miranda

Frank Miranda is running for Annette Giarratani's vacated spot.

Though Frank Miranda is running for a spot on the school district board of education, he's not a new face to the board. Miranda was on the board from 2004-2007.

Miranda is a member of the Dad's Club and was inspired by that group to go back onto the school board, he said. Miranda left the board because he was at a point when his children, Alexa and Ashley, needed more of his time with things like math homework help.

During this term on the board, Miranda hopes to serve as a mediator and to help the board with services from BOCES, where Miranda works. He hopes that technology from BOCES could help to save the district money in the future. One example of saving money is that condensing servers would save space and electricity.

Miranda considers himself to be an open-minded and easy-going person who likes to evolve with both new technologies and new thoughts. He's also willing to work with people.

"People should continue to learn, grow and evolve," Miranda said.

When he potentially becomes part of the board, Miranda wants to try to avoid cutting programs as they're difficult to reinstate after they've been cut. He also "wants Long Island to get its fair share from New York State."

If he is elected onto the board, Miranda's first order of business will be to evaluate the situation and see what's going on so that he can be "more attune with what's going on in the community."

Miranda hopes to be the type of board member who will be sympathetic to parents with concerns and tell them something even if he legally can't.

Miranda is running unopposed for Annette Giarratani's vacated spot.
