New Hyde Park Little League (NHPLL) Girls Major Division

New Hyde Park’s William A. Gross Construction took down Garden City South No. 1 on May 4. Strong hitting and solid pitching led to an 18-12 victory for New Hyde Park. The team scored the win with only 7 girls. Diana T. and Corinne M. both had strong pitching performances. The hitting attack was led by Irene K. with a two-run home run. Other hitting stars include Katie T. (4 hits), Corinne M. (4 hits), Diana T. (3 hits) and Ericka H (2 hits). The fielding stars were Eliz W., who saved a big inning with a stop at third base of a sure double, Katie H., who had a stellar game at first base and Emily G., who was invaluable covering 3 outfield positions.

New Hyde Park’s William A. Gross Construction defeated West Hempstead 12-8 on May 12. New Hyde Park rallied with 4 runs in the fifth inning and 2 runs in the sixth inning for a come from behind win against W. Hempstead on Mother's Day. Corinne M. pitched the last 3 innings and only allowed 2 runs. Strong fielding was on display with great catches by Katie T., Irene K., Erika H. and Diana T. Kayla K. threw a runner out at third base. Nicole G., Katie H. and Emily G. were solid in the outfield with no balls getting past them. Leading the hitting attack was Angelina F. (2 hits, 2 walks & 3 runs scored) and Elizabeth W. (3 hits & 2 runs scored). NHP William A. Gross Construction heads into the middle of the season with a record of 5-2.

New Hyde Park Giant Industrial won over Franklin Square No. 2 by a score of 11-10 on May 15. New Hyde Park started on fire, loading the bases for Caitlyn O'Conner who came through with a single, 2 RBI's and stole 2nd. Two batters later with bases loaded again Tiffany Moreno hit another single with 2 RBI's. Hallie Dziomba started as Giant's pitcher and was relieved by Lindsey Raimondi in the 5th inning with a score of 9-9. It was a back and forth game all night and ended with Franklin Squares last at bat. It was all tied up at 10-10 with a runner on second and two outs when the FS batter rip a shot to right center field and driving in the winning RBI. Giant Industrial is now 8-2 with seven games remaining.

New Hyde Park Little League (NHPLL) Girls Minor Division

New Hyde Park’s Mathnasium played Valley Stream on May 8 coming out on top 5-3. Their game on May 11 against Franklin Square 1 was a rain out. On May 13 the two New Hyde Park teams (Mathnasium & Zadnik DDS) faced off. This game ended up being a pitchers battle as Megan Bleeker for Zadnik pitched the entire game allowing 2 runs. On the other side Claire Mikowski, Paige Jones & Julia Kuzurock, the new addition, made appearances on the pitching rubber. The game was tied 2-2 until the fifth inning when Zadnik opened up on Julia K's first time pitching appearance and scored 5 runs, 1 earned, to take the lead 5-2. Mikowski threw three shutout innings and Paige Jones made a short appearance before Julia K. Both teams got to challenge each other and see how the other team was. After the game both teams met on the pitching mound for a quick talk by both managers and an-all hands in New Hyde Park cheer.

Mathnasium went to Floral Park on May 14 but their bats and gloves missed the bus. It was a tough evening for the girls not only missing a few off the roster but losing 14-4. However, Julia K hit a nubber back to the pitcher and ended up scoring. She just couldn't stop running and she made a perfect slide into home to bring some cheer and smiles back to the dugout and the New Hyde Park bleachers. Faith Lusk, Lexi Schneidmuller & Julia Broadman tasted a little infield dust when they got their move to the infield for a couple of innings. Normally this trio does a good job covering the outfield positions and backing up the bases.

On May 11 New Hyde Park Zadnik DDS was scheduled to play West Hempstead 1 but when they arrived the gates were locked, the fields covered and no one there so they moved to a nearby field that was in perfect condition and had a great practice.

Mathnasium is now 4-4-1 and Zadnik DDS is 6-1.
