New Hyde Park Man Gets Scammed Out of $50K Over Sale of Elevator: Police

The elevator supplier was arrested Tuesday after a three-month investigation, State Police say.

An upstate New York man was arrested Monday for cheating a New Hyde Park man out of more than $50,000 over the sale of an elevator, New York State Police said.

According to authorities, David Wagner, 58, of New Paltz, sold Abdul Bhuiyan, 56, a Cambridge Journey Lula Elevator for $45,000 in 2013. Bhuiyan agreed to pay Wagner storage fees for the elevator until he was ready for installation, police say.

After the sale, Wagner allegedly sold that same elevator to another person without Bhuiyan’s consent or knowledge. Wagner also continued to charge Bhuiyan $10,400 in storage fees for that elevator even after it was installed in another building.
