New Hyde Park Man Hits Police Officer With Car, Charged With DWI And Assault, Police Say
A North New Hyde Park man is facing a DWI charge Tuesday after he struck a police officer while driving intoxicated, police say.
NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A New Hyde Park man is facing a DWI charge Tuesday after he crashed his car into a police officer, police said.
Nassau County police said 38-year-old Rene Dominguez Alonso was arrested after a crash at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday. Police said a third precinct officer was patrolling in New Hyde Park when he was struck by a 2004 Infiniti sedan. A second police unit on patrol near the intersection of New Hyde Park Road and Aberdeen Road saw the crash take place, police said.
In the aftermath of the crash, Alonso remained at the scene as an investigation began that would reveal he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, police said. The police officer was taken to the hospital while Alonso was arrested, police said.

Tuesday, Alonso is scheduled for arraignment on charges of third-degree assault, DWI and operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of more than 1 percent, police said.
