UPDATED: Son of Woman Killed in New Hyde Park is Focus of Homicide Investigation

A man came home to find his wife dead and son unconscious Tuesday.

Homicide detectives have turned their attention to the son of a woman who was stabbed in the neck with a large kitchen knife in New Hyde Park on Tuesday, Newsday reports.

According to detectives, Irwin Bloom, 69, returned to his home, located at 47 Knolls Drive, at 6:20 p.m. and found his wife Sandra Bloom, 67, dead on the kitchen floor and his son Vaughn H. Bloom, 44, on the couch unconscious and in need of medical attention.

Police said Vaughn was possibly suffering from an overdose and added that a needle was discovered in the upstairs bathroom, according to News 12.

Bloom was taken to a local hospital for treatment and he is listed as being in guarded condition.

Authorities said the son has psychological issues and police have gone to the Knolls Drive home on previous occasions, Newsday reports.

News 12 says authorities did not see any signs of a break-in and the kitchen knife was found in the home.
