New Hyde Park Road School Students' Art First to Be Featured in Lakeville Road Kiosk

Students created various winter scenes.

Fifteen students in grades one through four created winter scenes that are being featured in the kiosk on the corner of Lakeville Road and Jericho Turnpike.

New Hyde Park reached out the Road School and art teacher Sharon Rebecchi helped guide the students' artwork. This art installation will be a seasonal one with the images being changed out about four times a year. The spring installation should be put in sometime in April, Rebecchi said; the spring artwork will be done by the fifth and sixth graders.

As the students stood before their artwork in the kiosk on Wednesday afternoon, some of whom had not yet seen it in this light yet, they explained how they decided to create their masterpieces.

"We got a packet with different pictures, like a reindeer and gingerbread, so I took the reindeer and put it with the gingerbread house," explained fourth grader Geena Gardella.

Fourth grader Billy Estapinian noted that Rebecchi encouraged some of the children to use glitter on their artwork to "make it look like snow, like in a snow-globe," Estapinian said. He said his drawing was inspired by the story of Hansel and Gretel, which Estapinian read not too long before his artwork was created.
