New Hyde Park Sports Notebook: March 18-24

Patch will get you caught up on all your local sports action.

There are so many sports out in the New Hyde Park area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local New Hyde Park teams have been up to this week.

New Hyde Park:

Baseball: The Gladiators won their first game of the season on March 23 with an 11-0 shutout over Great Neck North. The offense was led by Anthony Simone who drove in four of the runs. Nick Perrone recorded the victory as he threw five shutout innings recording eight strikeouts.

Softball: The Lady Gladiators split their games this week. The first was on March 20 over Syosset by the score of 1-0. The lone run was scored in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single by MaryKate O’Boyle. The win was recorded by Geena Fornataro who tossed the final five innings while striking out 12.

On March 22 they were defeated by Seaford by the score of 11-3. Decola suffered the loss as the girls moved to 1-1 on the young season.

Boys Lacrosse: The boys lacrosse squad won their only game of the season on March 23 over Uniondale by the score of 7-6. The game was won in OT on an Austin Lowey goal with 2:20 remaining.

Herricks:

Boys Lacrosse: The boys lost both of their games this week. The first one was on March 20 by the score of 10-9 against Wheatley/Carle Place. The decisive goal was scored by Owen Spisak with 3:28 remaining.

The next game was on March 21 against King Park by the score of 11-1. The scoring was led by Brian Headrick who totaled three goals.

Girls Lacrosse: The girls defeated Planview JKF on March 21 by the score of 14-9. Alison Ricchiuti was the star of the game as she tallied four goals and three assists.
