New Hyde Park Memorial High School senior Gregory Kothesakis was one of four first-place winners in the Irish Cultural Society of Garden City writing contest.
There 588 were submitted to the contest, with 47 winners receiving honors.
Gregory will be receiving $200 for his analysis of the rhetorical strategies used by the writers of the Proclamation of Irish Independence read aloud at the Easter Rising in Dublin 100 years ago.
