ROA Presents “The Changing Face of News”

Journalist, news reporter, opinion writer and photographer Karen Rubin will be Reach Out America’s guest speaker at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 13th at 2 pm.

Her topic will be an important one to her and to all citizens as well. It is: “How the News Business Impacts Democracy.” There have been so many changes in how we get our news, who controls it, how it is conveyed, who pays for it, what passes for news and how it impacts our democracy.

Karen will present her insider’s view on all of this.

Karen was for many years the editor of the Great Neck News. She now contributes a weekly opinion piece to the paper. Her topic can be local, national or international. It is always timely. She hails back to the days when newspaper reporters did everything. She covers every local event be it political, cultural, sports or spectacle. Beyond the Great Neck News and the other On the Island papers she writes independent opinion pieces and covers events for her own website www.Examiner.com. It will be a newsworthy meeting. Don’t miss it!

The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, 48 Shelter Rock Road in Manhasset. All are invited. Admission is free. Refreshments.

Prior to the guest speaker at 12:30, Reach Out America’s regular meeting with reports on ongoing activities upcoming actions will take place. All are invited.
