Residents Properly Dispose of Pollutants at N. Hempstead S.T.O.P. Event

More than 1,400 residents participated in the event.

More than 1,400 residents emptied their homes of unwanted and hazardous household items by bringing them to North Hempstead’s Stop Throwing Out Pollutants event last weekend.

The S.T.O.P. event was held at Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Residents disposed of various items, including aerosols, household chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants, rechargeable and lithium batteries, TV’s and computers.

The Town also partnered with the Nassau County Police Department to safely dispose unwanted or unused pharmaceuticals.

The final S.T.O.P. event of 2017 will take place on October 30 at 9:30 a.m. at North Hempstead Beach Park.
