Robotics season launches for Sewanhaka students

The Sewanhaka Central High School District’s Robotics Club recently competed at William Floyd High School and Great Neck North Middle School in the kickoff events of the 2019-2020 FIRST Tech Challenge season.

Students in the club, known as the “Robopandas,” are drawn from the five high schools in the district. The students design, build, program and operate a new robot each year. They compete in a head-to-head game, play in an alliance format, and also must present the technical aspects of their robot and their community service efforts to a judging panel.

At William Floyd High School, the Robopandas were recognized with the Second Place Design Award, the Third Place Innovate Award, the First Place Connect Award and the Second Place Inspire Award.

At Great Neck North, the Robopandas were recognized with the Second Place Control Award, the Second Place Innovate Award, the Second Place Connect Award, the Third Place Think Award, and the First Place Inspire Award. The Robopandas were also part of the Winning Alliance for the competition.

Based on their performance, Sewanhaka’s team will advance to the Long Island Championships in March.
