Sewanhaka Students Excel at Rutgers University Model UN Competition

"Eat, sleep, MUN."

New Hyde Park Memorial High School’s Model United Nations team competed at the Rutgers University Model UN competition in New Brunswick, New Jersey from Dec. 3-6.

The conference brought together more than 1,000 students from across the country to debate such important topics as gender equality, the rights of refugees, child trafficking and combatting the international drug trade. New Hyde Park represented the nations of Turkey and India, led by seniors Visruth Girish, Greg Kothesakis and Vinay Madula. The team worked hard and truly lived up to the tenet of “eat, sleep, MUN.”

Special congratulations go to the following delegates, who received awards for excellence in their committees: Eleni Kothesakis and Greg Kothesakis in the Commission of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice; Mackenzie Griffin and Danielle Schwartz in the Special Political and Decolonization committee; Vinay Maddula and Billy Zois in the Commission on Science and Technology for Development; and Nick Donatelli and Mollie Zimmerman in the Historic Session of the General Assembly.
