Spectacular Grand Finale Tag Sale at Sands Point Preserve

Final Design Showhouse events, with ticket proceeds, donations and a percentage of sales going to essential restorations at the Preserve.

Usher in the holidays with the much-awaited Design Showhouse tag sale at Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve, on Nov. 30, from 12-4 p.m. Whether you are looking for a unique gift or original artwork for family and friends, to spruce up your home for seasonal entertainment or to simply browse, the sale promises to have something for everyone.

The tag sales enables Showhouse visitors to shop for a cause. All of the sales from the donated items and 10 percent of sales items sold by the designers go towards essential restorations at Sands Point Preserve.

The Nov. 30 tag sale also marks the closing of the month-long Showhouse, which reimagines through the eyes of some of the regions’ most talented designers how the Guggenheims might live at Hempstead House in the 21st Century. The designers have transformed bedrooms, living spaces, guest rooms, a library and even a nursery, so there will be plenty of merchandise from which to choose at the sale. Of the 24 decorated rooms, five designers – Catherine Weinstock, Nadia Vee, Gabrielle Knable, Silvana Loccisano, and Safavieh – received special awards from Shawn Elliott of Shawn Elliot Luxury Homes.

The rooms have been decorated with items from such noted companies as Robert Allen, Design Within Reach, The Rug Company, Safavieh, Bellini Baby Furniture, Martin Viette, Luigi Gentile Bespoke and more. Many of the rooms are also adorned with genuine antiques.

Original artwork from notable artists from around the region, including Babs Weiss, Larry Chrapliwy, Barbara Stein and more will also be for sale. Visitors to the tag sale will have the chance to meet some of the artists, and discuss their work.

“People have been buzzing about the tag sale since our Masquerade Ball on Oct. 31 – the preview event for this year’s Design Showhouse,” said Jean-Marie Posner, executive director of the Friends of The Sands Point Preserve. “As was the case in 2013, the Showhouse this year has been a big draw for people from all around the region who wanted to spend the day at Hempstead House, see the creativity of the designers and take in the luxurious setting of the mansion. The tag sale is an opportunity to bring a bit of that luxury home with you – and at a good price.”

Beautiful rugs, sofas, lamps, table settings, chandeliers, tables, throw pillows, linens and more will be for sale at the designers’ discretion. While the sale is cash and carry, some buyers may wish to arrange for shipping for larger items. On Sunday, the Showhouse will be open from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
