Teller Stole $4K From Nassau County Bank: Police

The teller was arrested Wednesday at her Queens residence.

A teller at a New Hyde Park bank was arrested Wednesday for stealing $4,000 from her bank drawer for her own personal use, police say.

According to authorities, Raquel Benjamin, 28, of Springfield Gardens, was told Tuesday that TD Bank, located at 110 Hillside Avenue, would be conducting an audit and that she was not to receive any customers.

Police say Benjamin, prior to the audit, requested another teller to sell her $4,000 in large bills and she placed the money in her drawer without paying the other teller. Benjamin denied the transaction when security questioned her about the purchase, police say.

Security conducted an internal investigation and contacted Nassau County Crimes Against Property detectives. An investigation revealed Benjamin removed $4,00 from her bank drawer for her own personal use on March 25, police say.

She was arrested Wednesday at her Queens residence.

Benjamin was charged with third-degree grand larceny and will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
