Troop 10 of Great Neck, N.Y. had 12 scouts participate in the December activity. They with adult leaders went to the renovated and newly re-opened Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, former New York State Governor, the 26th President of the United States, and the first Commissioner of the Nassau County Council of the newly formed Boy Scouts of America. He signed Troop 10’s first charter in 1915. The ranger’s tour was full of a multitude of interesting and amazing facts about TR and his life and times. The accumulated possessions were, in some cases, astounding. The scouts then participated in a flag raising ceremony. They hiked to the cemetery where Theodore Roosevelt was buried and walked up the 26 steps to his gravesite. They searched for and found a geocache in the vicinity. Pizza for lunch was consumed hungrily by all, and back home to Great Neck they went. Troop 10 meets at the North Shore Presbyterian Church, Monday evenings 7:45-9:00 when school is open.
