There are, of course, a few ways to make those New Year's resolutions a way of life, no matter where you live.
Professor and behavioral specialist Eleanor D. Brown said the secret might not be in how (or where) you set your goals, but in the support you get along the way.
"Setting a resolution is good for articulating our intentions, but it has limited value unless we have a plan for how to achieve it — in fact, a goal without a realistic plan for success may be counterproductive because it sets us up to fail and feel bad about ourselves," Brown explained. "Breaking goals down and identifying steps we can take each day, week, and month can increase the likelihood of success, as can setting up a support system. That system could be a friend or partner we check in with on a daily or weekly basis to share about what's going well in terms of keeping our resolution, what has been challenging, and anything we'd like to do differently going forward. Or in some cases, it might be that a counselor, therapist, or support group is useful for tackling bigger emotional issues getting in our way."
