3 Teens Arrested In Armed Carjacking Of Restaurant Owner: NRPD

New Rochelle police said the Main Street carjacking might be connected to similar crimes in Connecticut and Port Chester.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking over the weekend.

On Saturday, at about 2:44 a.m., New Rochelle police were called to 969 Main St. on a report of a carjacking. A restaurant owner was closing his business for the night and was reportedly accosted by two male suspects who demanded the keys to his vehicle. A semi-automatic handgun was displayed, according to the victim.

The restaurant owner complied with the attackers' demands and his car was taken.

New Rochelle Police Department detectives, along with the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, were able to track the vehicle to a neighborhood in the Bronx.

Surveillance on the vehicle was set up with New Rochelle Police Department detectives and the FBI. At about 2 p.m., the suspects returned to the stolen vehicle. After a brief foot chase, they were taken into custody. A third suspect was also taken into custody. The suspects who were arrested are also suspected to be involved with robberies that occurred hours earlier in Connecticut and Port Chester.

Three juveniles, ages 15, 16, and 17 years old were charged with felony armed robbery. Police have withheld their names because of their ages. The suspects were arraigned virtually that evening and were released from custody on their own recognizance to their parents.
