9 Westchester Beaches Reopen, 3 LI Sound Beaches Remain Closed

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — As the penultimate weekend of the summer season approaches, nine Westchester beaches have reopened, but three remain closed in Mamaroneck and New Rochelle.

After retesting, the Westchester County Health Department said that three beaches that had been closed preemptively after heavy rainfall this week must remain closed to bathers.

The Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club and Harbor Island Beach in Mamaroneck remain under a health department closure order. Hudson Park West Beach in New Rochelle will also remain closed to swimmers.

The good news is that the majority of the beaches that were ordered closed have been allowed to reopen ahead of the weekend.

The following beaches, which were preemptively closed due to rainfall, are allowed to reopen to bathers:

RYE:

  • Coveleigh Club

MAMARONECK:

  • Beach Point Club
  • Orienta Beach Club

NEW ROCHELLE:

  • Hudson Park East Beach
  • Davenport Club
  • Greentree Club
  • Surf Club

Two Mohegan Lake beaches, that were ordered closed due to a Harmful Algae Bloom in the bathing areas, can also reopen. The order includes Mohegan Beach Park District Beach and Mohegan Colony Association Beach.

Residents and visitors are advised by public health officials to visit the Westchester County website for the latest updates on beach closures and reopening schedules.
