HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.
This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
Volunteers are needed to "hit the streets" to share New Rochelle information by hanging posters and flyers at neighborhood hubs, community fairs, events, and more. Volunteers will receive e-alerts when opportunities become available and they can sign up where and when it's convenient for their schedules.

The Wilderness Crew will help Westchester Land Trust's staff maintain the preserve's seven miles of trails, remove invasive species, and plant trees. Wilderness Crew volunteers will also learn to identify native and invasive vegetation, fix common trail issues, gain new skills in habitat restoration, and connect with nature. Tools and light snacks will be provided.

College Access Mentors for Teens
The Community Resource Center's College Access program aims to provide first-generation and immigrant youth with a mentor to demystify and simplify their college application process. College Access Mentors will help guide their high school junior or senior throughout the college application process, be available to answer questions, and provide advice. Volunteer Mentors must be 20+, attend training sessions, and meet with their mentees in-person for at least 1-2 hours per month.

Young Musicians of Westchester provides musicians who are embarking on professional careers with opportunities to perform at public concerts in their communities. Outreach Volunteers are needed to help find audiences for these free concerts by reaching out to organizations or community centers, such as independent living facilities or senior day centers. Volunteers must be 18+.
