Frozen Foods Sold In NY Recalled Due To Possible Plastic Contamination

Morningstar Farms is voluntarily recalling two frozen food products that were sold at retailers with outlets in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Boxes of frozen nuggets and patties are being pulled off shelves in the United States, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica this week after the company that makes them said they could contain pieces of plastic.

Morningstar Farms recalled two of its products in a Tuesday announcement, saying the company's 10.5-ounce Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets and 8-ounce Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties could possibly contain the plastic. The FDA published the recall Monday.

According to Morningstar Farms' website, the recalled patties and nuggets are sold at Shoprite, Stop & Shop, Target, Walmart and Wegmans locations across New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island.

The affected patties and nuggets, the company said in an announcement of the recall, have best-by dates of July 5, 6, 7 and 8. Morningstar did not say Tuesday how the plastic may have gotten into the patties and nuggets.

The company said none of its other products were affected by the possible plastic contamination, adding that, "People who purchased affected product should discard it and contact the company for a full refund."

Morningstar's consumer affairs team can be reached by phone on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 800-962-0120, or by text at 877-453-5837.
