Health Department Orders 9 LI Sound Beaches Closed For Today And Tomorrow

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Health officials have closed several Sound Shore beaches after the recent heavy rains in the area.

The Westchester County Health Department has closed the beaches preemptively for Tuesday and Wednesday because of 1.76 inches of rainfall over the last 24 hours.

In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club, and Surf Club on the Sound are closed.

In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, and Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club have been closed to swimmers.

In Rye, Coveleigh Club has been ordered to close.

Swimmers are advised to avoid the water due to potential bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches.

These beaches are allowed to reopen on their own on Thursday, August 6, unless significant additional rainfall occurs, according to health officials.
