The Jig Is Up: Officer Unmasks 'License Plate Flipper' Hidden In Plain Sight At Glen Island Park

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Bronx woman wasn't quite as chameleon-like as she thought, according to police.

A Westchester County police officer assigned to a detail in Glen Island Park recently spotted a vehicle outfitted with a "license plate flipper," according to WCPD. On one side was a legit NY plate, but on the other side was a fraudulent Delaware license plate, according to cops.

"License plate flippers are commonly used for aesthetic purposes at auto shows, where they allow drivers to switch to display custom or decorative plates," WCPD said. "But too often they are used by persons seeking to evade law enforcement or avoid electronic toll systems or automated speed cameras. Fake plates, as the Delaware one reveals, are indeed BAD news."

The driver, a Bronx woman, lacked a valid driver's license, according to police. The "spy-tech"gadget," the bogus license plate, and the car were seized by police.

The driver was ticketed for driving without a license, and having excessive tint.
