1. Autumn Glow Festival Coming to Glen Island Park This Fall (newyorkfamily.com) — New Rochelle's Glen Island Park will host the Autumn Glow Festival, a nighttime lantern walk with hundreds of illuminated sculptures, food trucks, and live entertainment on weekends from September 11 through November 1. Timed-entry tickets start around $16, parking is free, and the stroller-friendly route takes about an hour or more to explore with the family.
2. State Seeks Public Comment on Brownfield Cleanup Plan for 260 North Avenue Bank Site (talkofthesound.com) — State environmental officials are reviewing a Brownfield Cleanup application for the longtime Citizens Bank site at 260 North Avenue in downtown New Rochelle, a property with more than a century of industrial and commercial use. Although the initial public comment period closed August 21, documents are available online and at the New Rochelle Public Library, and the DEC has sometimes reopened comments when communities show strong interest.
3. Centre Avenue Bridge Over I-95 Reopens, New Rochelle Says (talkofthesound.com) — Drivers and pedestrians in New Rochelle can once again use the Centre Avenue Bridge over I-95, which reopened Friday morning after a two-month closure for major repairs and safety upgrades. The city says the 68-year-old span now has improved joints, sidewalks, and added clearance over the highway, all part of a larger $86.7 million I-95 project in Westchester.
4. Motorcyclist killed in crash in New Rochelle (newportdispatch.com) — New Rochelle police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on Pinebrook Boulevard that killed a 27-year-old city resident and left his 18-year-old passenger with minor injuries. The bike struck a metal bollard around a utility box just after midnight on August 25, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the department's non-emergency line.
5. Gabriel Hostin's Trespassing Case Heads to Dismissal Through Diversion Program, Not the Outright Drop His Mother Sought (talkofthesound.com) — A trespassing citation against Gabriel Hostin, issued after MTA police found him on Metro-North tracks near the New Rochelle station, is on track for dismissal following his completion of a Fresh Start diversion program. Records and prior reporting indicate his mother, TV host Sunny Hostin, had pushed for an unconditional dismissal, but prosecutors instead offered the same pre-arraignment option used for other first-time, low-level offenders.
