Fugitive Who Fled Country To Evade Sex Abuse Allegations Nabbed After Getting Caught Speeding: Police

RED OAK, NY — A Hudson Valley fugitive who was wanted on sex abuse charges is now in custody after fleeing the country.

On Thursday, at 12:50 p.m., police stopped on a car for a speeding on South Broadway in the Village Of Red Hook. Cops soon learned that the driver had a felony warrant for first-degree sexual abuse issued by the White Plains Police Department from 2007.

Police say that the driver, Jose Tacuri, 50, currently of Wappingers Falls had posted cash bail following his 2007 arrest and fled the country to avoid prosecution. Sometime Tacuri returned to the United States and obtained a New York State drivers license using an altered name and date of birth, according to investigators.

Tacuri was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument and forgery both felonies as well as false personation, a misdemeanor.

He was processed in Red Hook and turned over to the White Plains Police Department warrant squad before being remanded to the Westchester County jail.
