Westchester Launches October Drive for Domestic Violence Survivors' Personal Care Items

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County' The Office for Women is launching a personal care donation drive in White Plains for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with collections beginning Oct. 1 and continuing through the end of the month.

The drive will support individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. Donated items will be distributed to domestic violence service providers, women's shelters and individuals receiving assistance through the Office for Women.

A donation collection box will be placed in the lobby of the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains. The county is asking residents to donate essential toiletries and personal care items, including toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, soap and other toiletries, hairbrushes and combs, tampons and sanitary pads, travel-sized personal care products and other essential overnight personal care items.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said the effort is meant to help people facing immediate needs during a difficult time.

"No one should have to worry about access to basic necessities while navigating an already difficult situation," Jenkins said, "This donation drive is a simple but meaningful way for our community to come together and support survivors of domestic violence. By providing everyday essentials, we can help restore a sense of dignity, comfort and security to those who need it most."

The county tied the effort to October's observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Office for Women said the campaign is intended to connect support with residents already seeking help through county services and through providers that work with survivors.

Westchester County Office for Women Acting Director Catherine Borgia said the month also serves as a reminder to survivors about available help, "Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity to remind survivors that they are not alone and that Westchester County is committed to connecting them with the resources and support they deserve."
