NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Westchester County jury has convicted a New Rochelle man in a 2025 robbery and stabbing that seriously injured a pedestrian.
The verdict against Kevin Lopez, 41, of New Rochelle was delivered Thursday.
Lopez was found guilty of attempted murder in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, attempted assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. The department said Lopez is a violent predicate offender, is being held at the Westchester County Jail and now faces up to 25 years in prison.
The case stems from an attack on July 30, 2025, at about 10 p.m. on the Centre Avenue Bridge over I-95 in New Rochelle. Lopez approached a pedestrian from behind, displayed a utility knife, demanded money and took $100 from the victim.
Lopez then pushed the victim to the ground and repeatedly stabbed him in the face, neck, abdomen and left arm before fleeing. Responding officers recovered Lopez's Drivers license at the scene.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for lacerations and a jugular hematoma.
Following an investigation by the New Rochelle Police Department, Lopez was arrested at his home on Aug. 8, 2025, and the knife used in the assault was recovered at the time of the arrest.
"The New Rochelle Police Department commends the Westchester County District Attorney's Office for its thorough prosecution and commitment to securing justice for the victim and the community," NRPD said in a segment following the verdict.
