Anticipation 'Building' For 2024 Glen Island Sand Art Competition

Do you have a vision in mind for a sand masterpiece? No need to set plans in stone just yet, but the contest is heating up once again.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It's time once again to get your pails, shovels and tools ready for the return of the annual Sand Art Competition at Glen Island Beach.

The 2024 Sand Art Competition at Glen Island Beach will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m.

Teams should be comprised of at least two participants, with a maximum of 10, according to organizers. Each team will be provided with three, five-gallon buckets, a spray bottle and access to water. Additional tools can be brought from home.

  • Building is scheduled from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Judging will take place from 3:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

Trophies and additional prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winning teams. Registration is required and can be done here.

"Glen Island Beach is a true gem of Westchester County and the annual, beloved tradition of its Sand Art Competition showcases the enormous talent of residents of all ages," County Executive George Latimer said in a statement announcing this year's competition. "The Parks staff do an incredible job of organizing this fun event."

Participation in the Sand Art Competition is free; parking and admission fees apply. Westchester County residence is required to enter Glen Island. Rain date is Sunday, Aug. 4.

"Year-after-year, the Sand Art Competition participants impress me with their creativity. I’m looking forward to this year’s creations," Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of ParksKathy O’Connor said.
