Arrest Made In Weekend Bank Robbery At Chase Branch In Nanuet

NANUET, NY — A bank robber fled on foot, but didn't get very far, according to police in Rockland County.

On Saturday, at 11:05 a.m., Clarkstown police were called to Chase Bank, on Smith Street in Nanuet,, for a reported bank robbery.

At the scene officers were given a detailed description of the suspect and began searching the surrounding area.

A witness reported that the suspect entered the bank at approximately 11 a.m. and approached a teller station. The suspect told the witness that he had a firearm and demanded money. The suspect then fled the bank on foot at approximately 11:01 a.m., according to witnesses.

Around 11:20 a.m., a Clarkstown Police Department officer spotted a man matching the suspect's description in the rear of 122 Rt. 59 and detained him. Additional officers responded and searched the surrounding area. K9 Jax assisted officers with the search.

That suspect was identified as 22-year-old James L. Gordon, of Nanuet. He was taken into custody and charged with felony robbery, grand larceny, and menacing.

Gordon was arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court, where bail was set at $50,000 cash or a $100,000 bond. Following his arraignment, Gordon was taken to the Rockland County Jail.
