'Alis' by Naomi Rich—Book Review

Book review of 'Alis' by Naomi Rich.

Alis takes place in a cult of religious communities. Alis, a young girl in a community relatively untouched by corruption of the other “communities of the Book,” has been chosen to marry a man she looks up to and adores ... well, used to. She is almost 15 and he is 40! She cannot lie with him or bare his child! There’s only one way out and it’s pretty risky: She has to run away to the all allusive City and find her brother who ran away years before.

This is a really good book that's rather refreshing. As there are trends in fashion, teen books are the same way. What are the themes currently (Although they are rather blunt)? Distopian future (i.e., The Hunger Games) and Paranormal (i.e. Twilight—apologies for Twilight being mentioned).

Historical fiction can usually be really good or really bad. Alis is on the good side. First, facts have to be right to be good. Second, it has to have something to keep the reader interested. Many times historical fiction can be boring. Alis was not. It was exciting and well-written. I don't ask for much more. That will be all my lovely readers ... Happy reading!
