
Just in time for Trick or Treating, this virtual program explores the history of a variety of different candies, including some that have been around for well over 100 years and some that are quite new. The program is conducted alphabetically, discussing a different “sweet” for each letter of the alphabet, but addresses broader themes, including when and why consumption of candy in the United States increased.
Presented by the Museum of Early Trades & Craft which explores American history with a focus on the life and stories of 18th- and 19th- century craftsmen and artisans. Drawing on its rich collection, METC connects the lives of people and their stories, while providing a bridge from the past to the future. Housed in Madison’s first public library building, this stunning Richardsonian Romanesque Revival building was donated by D. Willis James to the people of Madison, NJ in 1900.
