Class Delayed While Police Investigate Break-In At Middle School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police are investigating an early morning break-in at Isaac E. Young Middle School.

The break-in occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, according to district officials. No one was in the school at the time.

The start of school was delayed by two hours to allow police to complete their investigation. Families were notified, via a robocall, about the delayed start to the school day. Students who arrived at the regularly scheduled start time for classes, stayed in an outside tent already in place during cafeteria renovations.

Investigators said the school was broken into through a window some time after 5:30 a.m. The break-in set off alarms and New Rochelle police arrived soon after. The building was searched by officers and canine units before the all clear was given to allow teachers and students into the building.
