The College of New Rochelle: Padilla Rios Named ECAC DIII Metro/Upstate Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Fabiola Padilla Rios has been selected as the Corvias ECAC DIII Metro/Upstate Volleyball Rookie of the Week

NEW ROCHELLE, NY –The College of New Rochelle freshman outside hitter Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR) has been selected as the Corvias ECAC DIII Metro/Upstate Volleyball Rookie of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

This marks the first time in program history that a Blue Angel has been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)as Volleyball Rookie of the Week. Padilla Rios adds this honor to the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors she earned earlier in the week.

Padilla Rios led the team in kills and digs over a 3-1 week, which saw the Blue Angels extend their winning streak to 11 and their consecutive sets won streak to 30. Along the way, she helped CNR take down conference rival St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn, ending the Lady Bears’ 14-match conference regular season win streak

So far this season, the San Juan, PR native has been named HVIAC Player of the Week once, HVIAC Rookie of the Week three times, and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week once.

Earlier this season, sophomore libero Tiany Perez Diaz (Junco, PR) became the first Blue Angel to receive recognition from the ECAC, earning Corvias ECAC DIII Metro/Upstate Libero of the Week honors on September 4.

The Blue Angels return to action on tonight, traveling to Bronxville, NY to take on Sarah Lawrence College. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
