Coronavirus: ShopRite Donates Food For New Rochelle Schools
The kitchen at the high school had to be temporarily closed when a worker tested positive for the new coronavirus.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Food distribution continued uninterrupted in the New Rochelle school district Wednesday and Thursday after the kitchen at the New Rochelle High School had to be temporarily closed due to an employee being diagnosed with the new coronavirus. Extra help from WestCOP and a large donation from ShopRite enabled residents to receive food.
ShopRite supplemented what WestCOP was able to supply, after a call from New Rochelle Board of Education President Amy Moselhi.
The Palmer Avenue supermarket delivered pasta, sauce, cereal, water, granola bars, bread and other non-perishable items to the WestCOP food distribution site at 95 Lincoln Ave.

WestCOP site director Daniel Bonnet said the ShopRite delivery arrived in the nick of time.
"As of 5 a.m. (Wednesday,) we organized our staff with the National Guard here and we were preparing bagged sandwiches and meals," he said.
"We purchased products — bread, cold cuts — ourselves but were running low so we're really grateful to ShopRite and the school district," Bonnet said.
The district closed the kitchen Wednesday, and it was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
The kitchen has been preparing about 2,500 breakfasts and 2,500 lunches each weekday while schools are closed. The food is offered to those 18 years old and younger to help ensure that the district-funded meals are given to students.
