UPDATE: Suspect Caught in New Rochelle Robbery of Bank Courier

The courier was robbed of $10,000 Wednesday morning.

Updated at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015: A suspect has been apprehended in the Wednesday morning robbery of a bank courier in New Rochelle, according to police.

The identity of the suspect has not yet been disclosed, and according to Capt. Joseph Schaller, a second suspect, who may have gotten away with the stolen $10,000, is sought by police.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. after the courier left Pro Auto Parts on Cliff Street. The suspect jumped the courier from behind and the two scuffled before the suspect was able to wrestle the money away from him and flee in the passenager seat of a black SUV. Earlier reports that the suspect was armed and the robbery occurred at gunpoint were incorrect. No weapon was displayed, according to Schaller.

As the SUV pulled off, a witness began following them. The suspect jumped out of the SUV to confront the witness and the car drove off, leaving the suspect behind. He was then apprehended by police.

“We’re looking for his accomplice, the driver of the black SUV,” Schaller told Patch, adding that the $10,000 in cash has not yet been recovered.
