'Creepy Clown' Scare Comes to New Rochelle

Threats made on social media targeted several Westchester County schools.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The “creepy clown” scare has hit New Rochelle.

Media reports say that New Rochelle High School, as well as ones in Mount Vernon and Yonkers, is one of the latest targets on social media.

News 12 spoke with students who say they aren’t thinking the threats are serious, but law enforcement feels otherwise.

Using the names “Clownjohn Jacobs” and “Mount Vernon Clowns,” posts to Facebook and Instagram have mentioned 22 schools, including New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and Yonkers, the Journal News said.

On Tuesday, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement that said it takes the perceived threats seriously and provided suggestions for way the public should deal with the situation.

Law enforcement officials are hopeful whoever is behind the “creepy clown” scares will be tracked down.
