CT Man Arrested For Stealing His Own Car: Westchester County Police

The day didn't get any better for the suspect, when it was discovered that he was also wanted on warrants in New Rochelle and New York City.

The driver produced paperwork showing he was in fact the registered owner of the car, but a check with police in Connecticut offered a little more nuance.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — A Connecticut man was arrested today for stealing his own car, which, as the Westchester County Police Department pointed out, is something that can totally happen.

The suspect's car had been recently repossessed and police said he went to the repo yard, found his car and took it right back. Since the repossessed car was technically no longer his, it seems he was committing a felony rather than taking back his own property, according to officials.

On Friday at 10:16 a.m., the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen Mercedes Benz SUV was traveling in White Plains. A WCPD officer spotted the SUV a short time later and stopped it in Greenburgh.
