Cuomo, Nixon Square Off In Debate; Who Won? [POLL]

How do you think the incumbent governor and the activist/actress did during their only debate before the Sept. 13 primary?

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon agreed to have a debate before the Sept. 13 Democratic primary and it took place at Hofstra University Wednesday. It was the only scheduled debate between the two-term incumbent and the activist and former "Sex and the City" actress.

No matter the outcome of the primary, Nixon will be on the ballot in November because she is appearing on the Working Families Party line, though it likely will not make much difference.

A recent Siena College poll showed Cuomo ahead of Nixon by more than 30 percent.

Also on the ballot for governor in November will be Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, a Republican.

During the debate, Cuomo and Nixon sparred for an hour with topics ranging from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, political corruption, health care and marijuana.

And there were some memorable lines, as one would expect from a veteran New York politician and someone familiar experienced in the arts of television and the stage.

Nixon brought up the declining New York City subway system during Cuomo's governorship.

"He used the MTA like an ATM and we see the result," she said.

Cuomo countered by saying the city owns the subway, and Nixon interrupted.

Cuomo said, "Can you stop interrupting?"

"Can you stop lying?" Nixon said.

"As soon as you do," Cuomo said.

The governor took Nixon to task for a perceived lack of transparency over her income taxes. She disclosed her most recent return in May, but released another four years of tax returns Aug. 24.

"Only Donald Trump has done less transparency on his taxes than my opponent," Cuomo said.
