Donation To Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle Will Support STEM Room

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle students will be getting a leg up when it comes to STEM studies, thanks in part to a sizable donation from a company that knows a thing or two about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

This week, leaders from International Game Technology (IGT) and the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle (BGCNR) gathered to celebrate IGT’s donation of state-of-the-art computer equipment and technology to enhance the nonprofit organization’s STEM program. The celebration featured remarks by representatives from IGT and BGCNR, as well as State Assemblymember Steve Otis (AD-91), New Rochelle City Councilwoman Martha Lopez-Hanratty (District 1) and New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Jonathan Raymond.

"With IGT’s support, we are able to expose our members to STEM programming and activities as a complementary resource to our school district to support our members’ academic success," BGCNR Director of Clubhouses and Secondary School Programming William Iannuzzi said. "Boys & Girls Clubs promote learning and set a high value on education. The support from IGT will support our vision of ensuring every Club member graduates from high school ready for post-secondary education and a 21st-century career."

IGT donated the technology through its global After School Advantage program, which provides young people with access to technology in a safe, nurturing, afterschool environment. The donation of an iMac, 10 Chromebooks, a 72” Promethean ActivPanel interactive display and furniture will help advance the BGCNR’s STEM Room Initiative. This initiative helps close educational opportunity gaps for New Rochelle youth by providing access to innovative and creative programs and resources that develop creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills applicable to future STEM careers.
