'Drag Story Hour' Among Pride Month Events At New Rochelle Library

A diverse lineup in June includes a "Show Your PRIDE" Art workshop, a screening of the romantic comedy "Bros" & a historical retrospective.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Pride Month is in swing and the New Rochelle Public Library has an impressive lineup of events planned for everyone in the "Queen City on the Sound" to celebrate and engage with elan.

The New Rochelle Public Library just announced a series of events celebrating Pride Month. The library says that with a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, it aims to provide engaging and thought-provoking experiences for the entire community.

"These events, designed to promote understanding and appreciation of the LGBTQ+ community, offer something for everyone,” Tom Geoffino, Director of the New Rochelle Public Library, said. "By offering diverse programming during Pride Month, we hope to foster understanding, dialogue, and appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community."

On Monday, June 12, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., children ages 6 and up are invited to the"Show Your PRIDE" Art Workshop, a fun and engaging event designed to celebrate PRIDE month and foster creativity among children. Participants will make vibrant rainbow crafts that can be displayed or worn with pride. (NRPL)

The romantic comedy, from the producers of "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Bridesmaids," stars Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane, and is directed by Nicholas Stoller. On Wednesday, June 14, from 6:30 p.m - 7:30 p.m., the community is invited to take a virtual tour of the New York Historical Society's exhibit, "Safe/Haven: Gay Life in 1950s Cherry Grove." This program is designed to offer a unique opportunity to delve into LGBTQ+ history and gain insights into a pivotal era of gay culture. Registration is required and can be done here.

On Saturday, June 17, 11 a.m. - noon, the public is invited to "A Rainbow of Reading with Drag Story Hour," celebrating inclusion, diversity and individuality. Special guest Kitty Ka’Boodlez will entertain children ages 3 - 8 and their families with engaging stories, songs, and a craft activity. Tickets are required to attend, with one ticket available per family. Tickets can be picked up from the Children's Room on the morning of the program, and space is limited.

Events take place at the New Rochelle Public Library, located at 1 Library Plaza, in New Rochelle.
