Off-Duty New Rochelle Cop Charged After Fatal Accident in White Plains

The police officer had a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An early morning crash in White Plains, involving an off-duty New Rochelle police officer, resulted in the death of his passenger.

Harry Kyreakedes, 27, had a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit when he crashed his Jeep Cherokee on Mamaroneck Avenue around 3 a.m. Monday, the Journal News said. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Isaac Ward, 27, the passenger, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Kyreakedes, Dobbs Ferry resident, was taken to Westchester Medical Center for injuries to his legs, the Journal News said.

New Rochelle City Manager Charles Strome III issued a statement about Kyreakedes.

“We have been advised that an off-duty New Rochelle police officer was involved in a tragic accident this morning. Officer Harry Kyreakedes has been with the department for a little over a year. There is no further comment pending the criminal investigation by the White Plains Police Department,” Strome said.
