Erudite Ursuline Scholars Procure Red Ribbon Lexicon Preeminence

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Students at the Ursuline School in New Rochelle know what they're talking about when they say the competition for Vocabulary. com Vocabulary Bowl dominance can be arduous and nearly intractable.

The school currently stands as the number two ranked high school in New York in the October Vocabulary.com rankings and is ranked 22 nationwide in the competition that runs from October through April. The Vocabulary Bowl is an annual competition in which students across North America compete to see which school can master the most words.

The schools that rack up the most achievements and points competing on the Vocabulary.com website or the app are ranked each month. Every word mastered will be added to the school's overall total. The students who master the most vocabulary words, earning the most points overall by the end of April, will be crowned Vocabulary Bowl champions.

After the results are tallied for the school year, the winners will be announced in May. The top middle school and high school will be awarded championship trophies at a special ceremony held at each school. In addition, the top 100 students at the winning schools are each awarded a medal celebrating their achievement. A banner is also presented to the topped ranked school each month throughout the competition.

Ursuline, with students mastering an impressive 16,967 words, has the edge on the Hauppauge High School students in Hauppauge, New York with 14,998 words mastered. The all-girls Catholic high school was beat out by James Madison High School in Brooklyn, with 32, 117 words mastered, for top rank in New York.
