Art Opening – “Influence of the Land”

Celebrating Local Artists & their Work

Please join us at the opening reception for a look at some of the very best artwork that the region has to offer.  More than 60 paintings and sculptures, including many local landscapes, will be featured from prominent talents Tova Snyder, Sheldon Snyder and Eric Camiel.  Their individual work utilizes and integrates local surroundings and materials, giving a northeast infused flair to their art.

Tova Snyder
Tova’s murals and paintings are known for creating a sense of warmth and brightness.  Her work includes fresco, trompe l’oeil, ceilings paintings and restoration work.   Born in New York City, to artist parents, Tova was raised in Provincetown, MA, Rye, NY, and Israel.  She graduated from Yale University and received an MFA from Tyler School of Art.   Public art and paintings on canvas have been the focus of Tova’s professional life.   Her site-specific installations have attracted the attention of the public, as well as the media in the US, various European Countries, and Brazil. http://www.tovasnyder.com

Sheldon Snyder
While Sheldon’s paintings are known for their characteristic “flat” style, he has also designed and made jewelry, pottery, wood sculpture and wood toys.  He studied art at the High School Of Music and Art in Manhattan and at the Brooklyn Museum Art School.  Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York , he later continued on as an art major at Syracuse University.   Following his marriage to wife, Ruby, they owned a store called Scarlatti Ceramics based in Greenwich Village.  Later they founded Katan Toys in Provincetown, Massachusetts which moved to Rye along with the family, where he still lives and works.

Eric Camiel

Eric’s architecture and design work has been on the cover of House Beautiful and several of his works in other media are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress and the Library at Lincoln Center.   Born and raised right here in our backyard of Brooklyn, NY, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a minor in art history and finished his graduate degree at the NYU Film School.   The Sunday New York Times featured his prize winning sculpture, and his work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Glamour, and Time Magazine. http://www.ericcamiel.com

 

About transFORM Gallery: Housed in a former industrial factory more than six decades old, the gallery boasts high ceilings, original windows that drink of the natural light, and a spacious lofty quality. Exhibitions organized by transFORM have encompassed all the visual arts: painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and the decorative arts. In addition to producing its own exhibitions, the gallery also collaborates with classes from area schools to encourage creativity and to showcase some of the student works.
