Our conference theme for 2011 is “Go for the Green: Money, Power and Respect”. Green living has the potential to generate money, to conserve and create power, and shows respect for the earth. A conference of this depth and magnitude has never been seen before in Westchester County. It will be an epic ‘meeting of the minds’ with some of the brightest young adult leaders in the Westchester County, as well as the country, collaborating in an effort to secure a greener, and more economically sound future for young adults in this region.
The conference will be held on July 9th 2011. Doors open at 9:00 AM, the conference starts at 10:00AM, and ends at 4:30PM. We are expecting speakers from all around the country to participate in this highly anticipated event such as Justin Jones-Fosu of Baltimore, MD an inspirational speaker, young-award winning entrepreneur, innovative author, and weekly radio host named by ebony magazine as one of the top 30 young leaders on the rise. Joining us from Chicago are the Debt Free Divas, hosts of the Mid-Day Money Show, a weekly talk show that covers money management issues and financial literacy. From our very own Green Apple (NYC) Tamika Mallory will join us, she is the Executive Director of the National Action Network (NAN), one of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations founded by Reverend Al Sharpton.
There will be various workshops and seminars on green living, voter registration, relationships, financial literacy, community organizing, health and wellness. There will also be cooking and fitness demonstrations. Invited guests include: New Rochelle Councilman Jared Rice, GreeNR, and local businesses, The American Heart Association, Organizing for America, Iona College, NYAC College, CNR, Greenforall.org, Omega Psi Phi and Sigma Theta, along with countless others. The findings, conclusions and action plans resulting from this conference will contribute directly to creating ‘pathways out of poverty’, increased voter participation in the 2012 election, more vibrant and vigorous personal lives for young adults, and the spread of green awareness which is crucial to the health and long life of our planet.
