Excitement For Glen Island Sand Art Competition Is Building

Do you have a grand vision in mind for a sand masterpiece? No need to set plans in stone just yet, but the contest is heating up soon.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Get your pails, shovels and tools ready for the return of the annual Sand Art Competition at Glen Island Beach.

The 2023 Sand Art Competition at Glen Island Beach will take place on Saturday, August 5.

  • Building is scheduled from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Judging will take place from 3:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

"Glen Island’s Sand Art Competition is one of the highlights of summer in Westchester," County Executive George Latimer said in a statement announcing this year's competition. "Every year I’m impressed with the talent displayed by the contestants."

Teams should be comprised of 2 - 10 participants. Each team will be provided with three five-gallon buckets, a spray bottle and access to water. Additional tools may be brought from home.

Westchester County residency is required. While the event is free, admission and parking fees will apply. The rain date for this event will be Sunday, August 6.

"The staff at Glen Island does a great job at putting on the Sand Art Competition each year," Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O'Connor said. "I’m excited to invite new and returning participants to show off their creativity."
