Feijóo Resigns As New Rochelle Superintendent

She took over as superintendent less than one year ago.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle school district will be looking for another superintendent, after Laura Feijóo, who is out on medical leave, resigned.

The Board of Education made the announcement of Feijóo's decision at its Tuesday night meeting, the Journal News said.

Her resignation takes effect immediately, and Dr. Alex Marrero, the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, will be the acting superintendent for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

In an email, the board said its thanked Feijóo "for her dedication to the eistrict during a challenging school year and her commitment to the students, staff and community during her tenure with the district."

The board also said there would be no further comments regarding the matter because it was "a confidential personnel matter."

Feijóo was hired in June 2019 and took over the top spot in the district Nov. 1. She had said she would be taking a leave of absence beginning Sept. 3 to undergo surgery.
