Field Day, Barbecue For City Youth Hosted By Mentors In Blue
There were hamburgers and hotdogs from Joey's Deli.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police in New Rochelle teamed up with youth groups for the city’s Mentors in Blue Program field day/barbecue event July 11 at D’Onofrio Park. More than 70 people participated from the New Rochelle Police Department, Youth Bureau, North Ave. Outreach program, Municipal Housing Authority, along with New Rochelle middle and high school students.
Four mixed teams competed in activities, allowing young people and staff to interact, engage and explore new ways to build positive relationship, according to a spokeswoman.
They also enjoyed conversations over hamburgers and hotdogs from Joey’s Deli.

Youth Bureau Executive Director Kelly Johnson said there old-school field day events such as tug of war, potato sack races and steal the bacon.
“The camaraderie among the teams and support they showed to each other was tremendous,” he said. “It was a win-win day for everyone.”

This was the fourth event for the Mentors in Blue Program, established in Feb. 2018 as a collaboration of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau, the New Rochelle Police Department and local youth.
