First Look At Women's History Month At The New Rochelle Public Library
Programs include films, live music, theater and events that celebrate history-making women around the world and close to home.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The contributions of women to a shared history are especially captivating, perhaps because of the unique challenges that made changing our world all the more remarkable.
The New Rochelle Public Library announced that it will once again celebrate Women's History Month by holding a series of events throughout March, including film screenings, virtual presentations, concerts, and theatrical performances.
"Women's History Month is a time to reflect on the extraordinary achievements and enduring impact of women throughout history," Tom Geoffino, Director of the New Rochelle Public Library, said. "We are proud to host a diverse array of events that celebrate the rich contributions of women in various fields and inspire our community."

The "Extraordinary Women Film Series" will take place on March 5, 19, and 26, with three films celebrating extraordinary women and their accomplishments.
- March 5, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - Beyond Beijing
- March 19, 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - A Better Man
- March 26, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - Africa is A Woman's Name
The film series is presented in partnership with Zonta Club New Rochelle, a leading global organization whose mission is to build a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy. The series will feature stories distributed by Women Make Movies, the world's leading distributor of independent films by and about women. Discussion and Q&A will follow each screening. On March 9, at 3 p.m., David Rose, the library's archivist and amateur mycologist, will give a virtual presentation on "The Mushrooms of Violetta White Delafield." Rose will explore the groundbreaking work of Delafield, an American botanist, in the field of mycology, whose accomplishments include the discovery of several new species of mushrooms. As a horticulturist, she designed the gardens at her Montgomery Place estate on the Hudson River, and her watercolor illustrations of mushrooms are a permanent testament to her artistry and contribution to the science of mycology. On March 10, from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., guests will be able to enjoy "A Capella and More: A Women’s History Month Concert by Counterpoint," featuring original arrangements of popular music by female artists, including Adele, Carole King, Kate Bush, Sara Bareilles, Dua Lipa and more. On March 12, from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., the library will present a virtual tour of the New York Historical Society's exhibit, "Women's Work," exploring the pivotal role of women in American society. Registration is required and can be done here.
On March 13, at 11 a.m., guests will be able to explore "Those Bombastic Blonde Bombshells: Monroe, Mansfield, and Van Doren," a study of the iconic blonde actresses and the challenges they faced. This program will be presented virtually by Sal St. George. Registration is required and can be done here.
On March 20, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m., the library will hold a virtual program about the legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune, a pioneering educator, philanthropist, civil rights activist, founder of the National Council of Negro Women, and advisor to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Registration is required and can be done here.
On March 30, from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., guests will be able to experience "Voices and Echoes: Short Play Series," featuring original plays by women, exploring race, gender, and freedom in American history. A discussion with the playwrights and directors will follow. Registration is requested and can be done here.

All programs are free and will take place at the New Rochelle Public Library, located at 1 Library Plaza, in New Rochelle.
