Georgia Man Faces Murder Charges In New Rochelle Slaying: DA

He has been in jail since his arrest after his girlfriend died of a gunshot to the back in a downtown luxury tower apartment last month.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Georgia man will face murder charges in the fatal shooting in a downtown apartment tower last month.

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced on Wednesday that a Georgia man was arraigned on an indictment in which he is charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting his 30-year-old girlfriend inside her apartment in New Rochelle.

"The intersection of gun violence and intimate partner violence can be deadly," Rocah said announcing the indictment and arraignment. "I urge anyone experiencing abuse or violence at the hands of an intimate partner to contact the New York State Domestic Violence Hotline (call 800-942-6906 or text 844-997-2121) or our Domestic Violence Bureau at 914-995-3000."

Robert Wooten, 29, of Atlanta, was arraigned in Westchester County Court on a grand jury indictment charging him with two counts of murder in the second degree, burglary in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

Wooten remains remanded at the Westchester County Jail since his arrest.

According to the felony complaint, at approximately 10 a.m. on Aug. 24, Wooten fired a loaded gun multiple times at Meisha Williams, his girlfriend of several years, shooting her twice in the back inside her apartment at 55 Clinton Place in New Rochelle.

Friends of the victim discovered the victim’s body on the bathroom floor of the apartment and contacted the New Rochelle Police Department, who located Wooten in Queens where he was arrested.
