The illustration will be printed on vinyl and attached to the blue wall panels located on the western side of the North Ave. Bridge.

Contest applicants may submit their artwork as individuals or as teams and are required to include the words “New Rochelle Train Station” as a signature wayfinding element while incorporating their own personal artistic characteristics into the piece. The artwork may be abstract or pictorial depending upon the artist’s style but should include an element indicating the artwork’s proximity to the train station.

The winning artwork will serve as both an orienting landmark and a celebration of New Rochelle’s downtown revitalization, highlighting and uplifting the city’s growing reputation as a vibrant art scene. Applicants will be scored based on originality, creativity, composition and adherence to the theme. Current and former residents of New Rochelle will receive 5 additional points toward their total score.

"As New Rochelle continues to grow and flourish, we are proud to highlight our city’s thriving art scene through the collaboration of local artists and community members," Development Commissioner Adam Salgado explained. "Using art as the agent for creative placemaking helps to transform communities into lively, beautiful, and resilient places with the arts at their core."

Contest information and applications are available on the city's website. The deadline for submission of entries is September 28, with the selection of a winning submission expected to take place in November. The Jury of Selection will be made up of members of the Municipal Arts Commission of the City of New Rochelle. The winning submission is expected to be installed before the end of the year.
